The 2005-2006 Texas Longhorns Football Season was one to remember. Game after game, the Longhorns rolled through, coming up victorious each time. Then on January 4, 2006 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, two unbeaten teams met, and one emerged victorious. The Longhorns set numerous records that championship year. Led by Coach Mack Brown and with Vince Young quarterbacking the action, this team oozed talent, perseverance, and devotion.

Consider these stats: The Longhorns’ Big Twelve Championship win was the biggest margin of victory to date in the history of that game. Their Rose Bowl win was the 800th football victory in the history of the school. The 652 points they tallied throughout the season broke the NCAA record. They were the only unbeaten team in NCAA Division-1A football that season, and 24 of those players entered the NFL.

Author Nicholas Williams was a UT student and sports writer during that spectacular season. Like all UT fans, he followed the excitement of that undefeated championship season. He has crafted a Dr. Seuss-style recap of each of the 12 season games and the Rose Bowl Championship game. His clever ballardy will draw you into the action as you relive the highlights leading up to what ESPN named as the “Best Game in Any Sport” at the 2006 ESPY Awards.

Friends and fans who bleed burnt orange will want to add this compilation to their treasured UT collectables. It is a beautiful, hard-cover gift book, so pick up one for yourself and one for a friend.

A word from the author…

I am a Latino-gringo appearing Caucasian
Known to have fun on many occasion
Oregon blood and Texican raised
A poetic season is what I have made
A fan of the game and once a free-lancer
Can recaps be fun? Yes–is the answer.
My mind is intrigued with sports and with rhyme
And combining the two seemed well worth my time
So while recalling the scene, the moment, the names
Feel free to relive the joy of these games.
